An Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is a biometric identification system used for the collection, storage, and comparison of fingerprint images.
How does it work?
We enrol all 10 fingers for each applicant and/or proxy, and will do a complete de-duplication search for each applicant against all the fingers in the AFIS to check for potential duplicates. Any suspected duplicates are verified by an expert examiner using an adjudication screen to confirm the match. If no duplicate match is found the new applicant will be enrolled in the database. The attempted duplicate enrolment will be flagged for further investigation.
What is the purpose of the AFIS?
- Uniquely identify Customers based on biometric information
- Ensure that one person is not registered with two or more ID’s
- Perform verification and identification of a customer
- Enable independent authentication in cases where there is no access to civil identities.
- Reduces the cost of authentication after enrolment

A 1:1 verification and 1:N identification matching engine is used to match fingerprints in a reference database.Fingerprint Identification is the process of acquiring suitable candidates within the database using only a fingerprint image to make a match.
